Electric Stopper Cylinders
LEB electric stopper cylinders are electric versions of traditional pneumatic stopper cylinders. They are designed to be physically interchangeable with our pneumatic stopper series, allowing companies to upgrade from air to electric without redesigning their machines. As electric stopper cylinders, they have better control over the stopping speed and force which is critical when handling sensitive or expensive components. Many models can be operated with a simple on/off signal, eliminating the need for complex programming or dedicated motor controllers.
LEBH-X3 Electric Stopper Cylinder, Controllerless
The LEBH-X3 is a heavy-duty, electrically powered stopper cylinder designed for managing package movement on high-load conveyor systems, capable of stopping objects weighing up to 1,760 lbs (800 kg). This controllerless model simplifies integration by operating via a basic 24VDC ON/OFF signal rather than a complex motor controller, using a spring-extend and motor-retract mechanism. It features a roller lever with a built-in hydraulic shock absorber to cushion kinetic energy and is designed to be a drop-in electric replacement for SMC’s RS2H pneumatic series, making it ideal for facilities transitioning away from compressed air.
LEBQ-X31 Electric Stopper Cylinder, Controllerless
The LEBQ-X31 is an intermediate, controllerless electric stopper cylinder intended for conveyor loads up to 154 lbs (70 kg). Similar to the LEBH-X3, it operates without a dedicated motor controller by using simple 24VDC signals to trigger its motor-driven retraction and spring-driven extension. It comes equipped with a roller lever and an integrated hydraulic shock absorber to protect goods during stopping. This model serves as an efficient, energy-saving alternative to the RSQ pneumatic series, providing a compact and easy-to-wire solution for automated sorting and conveyor lines.
LEBQ-X1 Electric Stopper Cylinder, Controller Type
The LEBQ-X1 is a versatile electric stopper for light to medium conveyor applications, supporting transferred objects up to 286 lbs (130 kg). Unlike the other models, this version requires an external programmable controller, allowing for more precise control over the rod’s movement via a slide screw and cam mechanism. It offers multiple rod end options, including chamfered, roller, and lever types with shock absorbers, and is interchangeable with the RSQ pneumatic series for easy machine upgrades.

What are the two control types available for the LEB series?
The series offers a controller type (LEBQ-X1) using a step motor and a controllerless type (LEBQ-X31 and LEBH-X3) using a DC motor.
Are these cylinders interchangeable with pneumatic versions?
Yes, they feature interchangeable mounting with SMC’s pneumatic stopper series. LEBQ models are interchangeable with the RSQ Series, and LEBH models are interchangeable with the RS2H Series.
Does the controllerless type consume power when holding a position?
There is no power consumption while holding the raised-end position because it is held by spring force. However, it consumes approximately 4.8 W to hold the lowered-end position using a solenoid.
Can auto switches be used with all models?
Auto switches are only compatible with the controllerless types (LEBQ-X31 and LEBH-X3). The controller type (LEBQ-X1) does not have a built-in magnet for auto switch detection.
Can these cylinders be used to stop loads directly connected to the rod?
No, the catalog operating ranges only apply when the cylinder is used as a stopper for pallets on a conveyor. If you intend to stop loads directly connected to the cylinder, you must consult SMC first.
