Actuators with Integrated Controllers
The EQ series of electric actuators feature high performance motors with integrated controllers, as well as battery-less absolute encoders. Not all applications require the 64 positions and finely tuned speed and acceleration / deceleration curves available from JXC controllers. Instead, EQ integrated controllers offer a simpler 2-position solenoid mode with continuous travel from origin to the opposite end of the stroke. A closed center mode can also be set with an intermediate position. Motor enclosures include 3 communication LEDs and M12 metal cable connectors. Motor control optimization helps achieve up to 60% CO2 emissions.
EQY, Rod with Integrated Controller with IO-Link Option
The SMC EQY Rod Type with Integrated Controller is an ideal solution for engineers who want more precision than they can get with a pneumatic actuator, have little cabinet space, and don't always have access to a programmer. Instead of writing complex motion code, they can trigger it with simple on/off signals or use IO-Link to get data without intensive programming. The actuator provides pneumatic-like simplicity (pushing, sorting, or stopping) without the need for air lines. If there is a power outage, the battery-less absolute encoder enables the machine to remember exactly where it was so time isn't wasted homing the machine. The integrated controller is built into the motor, allowing the actuator to operate with a single power cable and a single communication cable.
EQYG, Guided Rod with Integrated Controller with IO-Link Option
The EQYG guided rod is designed for automation engineers who want to transition from traditional pneumatic systems to electric actuators. It integrates the motor controller directly into the unit to eliminate external control hardware and simplify installation. The EQYG is designed to function like a pneumatic cylinder, supporting simplified movement between two end-of-stroke positions and one user-defined intermediate position through either parallel I/O or IO-Link communication. It has a battery-less absolute encoder that retains position data without homing, high-performance stepper motors that reduce energy consumption by up to 60%, and a robust guide rod block to loads that are heavy, off-center, or require high precision without twisting.
EQFS, Slider with Integrated Controller with IO-Link Option
The EQFS rodless slider can move loads over longer distances and with more stability than a rod-type actuator. They are typically used when a part needs to be moved between conveyor belts, lifted vertically, or positioned at multiple points during the process. Because the motor and controller are integrated and the rod doesn't extend out the end, the overall footprint is 40% smaller than a traditional motor+drive setup, making it ideal for tight spaces. It is often used in large lab automation setups, because it's rodless design is compact enough to fit inside tight diagnostic machines. JX-T1 Teaching Pendant with Touchscreen
The JX-T1 is a handheld device for configuring the settings of EQ e-actuators with integrated controllers. It can be used for quickly clearing a servo error or overload warning, adjusting the pushing force so a gripper doesn't crush a delicate part, or defining the home, start, and work positions for a new product line. It offers a 4.3-inch TFT color LCD touchscreen, PC free operation, and real time monitoring. If the controller dies, do I have to replace the whole actuator?
No, the integrated controller is a separate, bolt-on module that can be replaced independently of the mechanical actuator body.
Does it require homing after a power failure?
No, it uses a battery-less absolute encoder that remembers its exact position even when the power is completely disconnected.
Can it handle side-loading?
Only the EQYG (guided) model is designed for side-loading; the standard EQY and EQFS models require the load to be centered or externally supported to avoid damage.
